About this activity

Beyond the Obama’s – Depart Kisumu early in the morning for Alego Kogelo is the ancestral home of Barack Obama, Senior the father of the former United States President-elect Barack Obama. Barack Obama Senior was buried in the village.

Some of their family members, including his paternal grandmother Sarah Anyango Obama, passed last year and was also buried in the village. In the homestead, you will find both the gravesites of Barack Obama Senior and his father.

From the Obama’s we will continue with our journey to Yala Swamp. This is one of Kenya’s most important wetlands and therefore a natural
resource for wetland ecotourism. It is Kenya’s third-largest wetland covering over 200 sq. kilometers of land in both Yala and Busia Counties of Kenya.
Both River Nzoia and River Yala empty their waters into Lake Victoria at Swamp. The swamp is an Important Bird Area according to the
classification by BirdLife International and is also home to the endangered semi-aquatic antelope animal by the name Sitatunga. However, this fragile ecosystem is under heavy threat from anthropogenic activities such as land conversions to agricultural farms, industries, and human settlements, among others Lake Kanyaboli within Yala Swamp Lake Kanyaboli on the other hand is a unique geographical feature and tourist attraction within the greater Yala Swamp Complex. It is an ox-bow lake about six meters deep. The Lake is home to rare species of fish that some of which are extinct in the
main Lake Victoria.

From the swamp, we will proceed to Lake Victoria beaches where River Yala empties its waters from the swamp. The lake waters here are stunning and with the empty tropical beaches on the shores of the world’s second-largest freshwater body. We will have our late lunch by the lakeside and then drive back to Kisumu late in the afternoon where our excursion ends.

Depending on your interest and schedule, we are flexible to begin from as early as 8 am but not later than 3 pm. Please advise us at the time of booking.

This activity will conclude in latest by 7 pm for those who booked late. We will transfer you to your hotel of residence and this must be located within our catchment area that is 15 km. For those who require transfer beyond our catchment are they will be subjected to pay an additional cost.

Airport transfers are not included in the price of this tour, however you can book for an arrival/departure transfer in advance.
